Medical English for Nursing and HealthcareWe will take you from IELTS 4.5 (which you will need to start the course) to IELTS 6.5 or 7.0The Centre School of English can offer suitably trained and qualified foreign nurses the opportunity to improve their English language skills before finding employment within the NHS and UK independent healthcare sectors. Our training programme includes components specifically designed to help our students settle into English life, prepare for the Academic IELTS exam, increase their knowledge of specialist medical vocabulary and improve their General English language skills.
Our Medical English Courses in Bournemouth will help you to:
Our courses feature expert guest speakers, IELTS Speaking Test practice with a Cambridge examiner and include visits to local Hospitals and Medical Centres. Our basic 10-hour Medical English course (combined General English, IELTS & Medical English) costs £90 a week. The course price includes one course book and materials for the first 8 weeks. As your level of English grows, you will need to buy further course books and these will cost about £20 each. A 15-hour Intensive course (separate General English, IELTS & Medical English) is also available for £110 a week. Accommodation with a host family is £100 a week and is provided for the first 4 weeks only. Most students then like to move into self-catering accommodation with some friends or perhaps remain with their host family. The Centre School of English will help you to find suitable accommodation if you choose to move out of your host family.
You will improve your ability to communicate in English and you will also learn the specialist vocabulary of Medical English:
A for: abnormal pigmentation - melanosis abnormal tissue change - metaplasia abnormal bone thickening - hyperostosis abnormality of development - dysplasia abrasion - graze (popular)
Our Medical English courses can be from 8 to 24 weeks long (depending on your level of English at the start), although you can join us for a short ‘booster’ course for only 2 or 4 weeks!
Many nurses who have studied with us are now working in the UK, using their language skills to help hospital patients and residents in care homes.
If you want to apply for a job in England, the Centre School of English will help you with everything, from writing letters and filling in application forms to helping you get that first interview - we will also help you practice the language you need at that interview!
Remember, we have contacts with some of the best nursing agencies in the south of England, so we are confident that we can find you work after you finish your course with us and achieve IELTS 6.0 minimum.
